The long-anticipated Shipwreck Cove Water Park in the Town of Duncan opened Friday June 12, 2009. Aqua-Blue Pools’ Director Rick Grover describes the pool as an “outdoor, free-form, pirate-themed water park. It’s an award-winning pool. It really is. It has so many cool features that fit together and give it the whole lagoon look.”

Jacqueline Swaim, Public Relations Director for Duncan, says the water park will provide a much-needed family experience and will also be a tourist destination. “We would love to attract tourists,” she says. “We are located right off I-85 so we think travelers will stop for a break. There is no other water park in all of Spartanburg County. We hope to serve the entire upstate region.”

Designed by Aqua-Blue Pools, Duncan’s Shipwreck Cover Water Park features “Little Squirts” spray park technology, manufactured by PLAYTIME LLC.

Grover tapped PLAYTIME, LLC to design, manufacture and install all of the park’s soft foam and water spray elements. PLAYTIME’s contributions to the Duncan water park include a brightly colored pirate ship complete with ramp, steps, slides, a bridge and a bird’s nest. Using PLAYTIME’s exclusive line of “Little Squirts” products, PLAYTIME also created an island with three palm trees with coconuts that spray water down at kids. Another unique “Little Squirts” element is the water wall, which looks like a big rock and is mounted on the side of the pool.

At 8,000 square-feet of surface area and 186,000 gallons of water, the park includes an adjustable lazy river that can move at speeds ranging from 4 to 15 miles per hour.

The fire department plans to do its rapid water rescue training there!” reported Grover, who adds that the water park was designed with his young grandkids in mind.

“This has truly been an exciting labor of love,” said Barry Frost, Town of Duncan Fire Chief. “We’ve had so many people and organizations pull together to see, grab and fulfill this vision, to build a world-class facility for Upstate families an vacationing families from around the country, right here in Duncan.”
