At La Palmera in Corpus Christi, TX, they remodeled every detail from the ground up, adding aquariums, fountains, indoor play areas and food courts. “Everything we’re doing will drive more traffic,” says Fred Walters, General Manager. “This is going to be a great holiday season!”

Just in time for Thanksgiving, new renovations and amenities will be unveiled, including a custom soft play area designed, manufactured and installed by PLAYTIME, LLC.

“We’re located right on the Gulf of Mexico, so the play area has a marine theme,” says Walters. “Not only do we have play structures on the floor but we’ve even hung sea creatures from the ceiling so the kids feel like they are playing underwater.”

Children’s play elements include dolphins, sharks, jellyfish and turtles. The custom carpeting depicts a map of the Gulf Coast with Corpus Christi on it so that children feel like marine explorers. Trademark even installed a 300-gallon aquarium at kids’ eye-level as part of the new play area.

For parents, the area includes banquette-style seating inside the area itself and, around the perimeter, counter-height bar stools where adults can sip coffee and socialize while keeping an eye on their kids.

With Santa already spreading his jolly cheer, La Palmera eagerly anticipates a fun holiday season.

“We’ve been under construction for 10 months and have spent $50 million to make this center really special,” says Walters. “Shoppers have been inconvenienced but no one has complained because everyone is so excited to shop in this beautiful new environment.”

Trademark purchased the 40-year-old property in July 2008 and immediately made plans to turn it into a cutting-edge, 21st century shopping experience. With over a million square feet to work with, the company added many new features to entice shoppers. They’ve even added a 4,400-gallon aquarium to a new food court.

“We are the only shopping mall of this caliber for nearly 250 miles,” says Walters. “Our goal was to transform La Palmera into the premier shopping destination for South Texas that offers something for everyone.”
